What’s the biggest challenge in your life right now?



What, just one? I guess balancing the gargantuan amount of work I have to do with the yoyoing lockdowns and school closures/homeschooling.

Ha! My understanding is that the person who made this cobbled it together from quite a few different surveys. I appreciate the effort but yes, questions like these are unlikely to provoke a significant variation in responses at the moment.

On the one hand—obviously, right?

On the other hand, I dunno, I feel like some folks I know (in the US and the UK) are living in this weird parallel universe where there’s no global pandemic. I’m boggled.

The Beeb interviewed some silent-voice-of-the-majority tosser in the street (with no mask, of course) who said, regarding his Covid-19 denial and anti-vax stance, "I wouldn't call myself a hero, but other people have been saying that to me." It was painful to watch. And you know he believes in that wholeheartedly, all of it, the conspiracy theories, and his own 'heroism'.

The stupid, it doesn't just burn, it's actually lethal right now.

I was reading on the Beeb yesterday (before they announced closing the travel corridors entirely—finally) about the ban from Brazil/etc. to the UK and people being like “but me/my partner/etc. are still on Christmas holiday in Brazil, what if they can’t get back?!” And I was like... I totally get people miss their families, near and far.

But.

That sounds more like a hydra, that you can call it one thing, but it has at least nine heads, all separate and distinct, but connected at the root.
