I'm honestly at the stage of 'I just can't look at the news. I'm going to read fic and pretend it isn't happening.' It won't help, but it's not as if I can make any difference anyway.
I've been terrified of a no-deal brexit for what, 2.5 years now? (goes checks notes, sibling moved out summer 2018, that's when I started low-key stockpiling food). There was a brief bit in Jan/early Feb where I thought I could run down the stockpile for a bit, and then by mid-Feb I was like, nope, we are aggressively rotating and refilling this thing, given the news out of Italy. And I've just ... kept it rotated and refilled all year.
I much preferred the scenario where I was a weird paranoid hoarder who turned out to be wrong all the time. I would love to be wrong about Brexit even now!
Saaaaame. Other half has suddenly stopped mocking my piling up teabags, pasta and nappies and started giving suggestions. And we're in a better position in NI (being as we're where the meat and potatoes come from) than any of you in GB are and I'm still far, far too tense about January.
I'm not stockpiling, but I'm not not stockpiling either, if you see what I mean. Just...since about mid-2018 there has consistently been rather more of a supply of non-perishable, long-life, and tinned goods than I would normally keep around. -.-
Yeah. I kind of took over a whole extra bunch of space for food storage. However, my rule is, I'm only allowed to buy "more than normal" if it's on some kind of multibuy or clearance sale, so I can't be contributing to panic-buying shortages.
I mean...when you make a radical decision, you should have a contingency plan for the worst possible outcome. Even discounting the time before the referendum, they've had four and a half years to come up with a plan. And they haven't. The hubris is unbelievable.
But 16 days after my arrival in the Netherlands, I'm really convinced I was not not precipitous at all. And I'm very glad the mother company is French these days.

It's almost like "Aren't we a lucky and unique nation to get this perfect 2020 end-move that nobody else gets to play?" =:o(
