Oh God. I love children and their curious, not-freaked-out connection with crawly and jumpy critters. Once when Eaglet was about Keiki's age they came to me with a grasshopper so big its head and hind peeped out of either side of their tiny fist and triumphantly held it out and asked if I wanted it.
Haha, Keiki did that to me with an enormous stag beetle whilst I was gardening! I managed not to jump three feet in the air, and I showered him with praise, for which I am inordinately proud of myself. ;D
Fireflies are amazing. The UK doesn't have them, only glow-worms - and those are not very common - so both Keiki and Humuhumu were absolutely enchanted by the nightly displays.
