Open to: Registered Users, detailed results viewable to: Just the Poll Creator, participants: 51

Have you bought anything on Black Friday?

Yes, and I used a promotional code or coupon, or took advantage of a Black Friday deal
16 (31.4%)

Yes, but only because I needed essential supplies, like coffee, tea and/or milk.
21 (41.2%)

No, I have stayed indoors, locked my wallet in a filing cabinet, and entirely avoided the internet. Someone else is answering this poll for me. Really.

I will wait until Boxing Week for my excessive capitalism. The deals tend to be just as good, with fewer hoops to jump through, fewer deceptive marketing and employment practices, and so on.

I'm not sure WHY that IS, even, but in my anecdotal experience it tends to be the case around here.

I am yes but it wasn't on purpose! Coat-refusing child suddenly agreed maybe a coat with sleeves that reached further than elbows might be a good idea so we rushed to shops and Mountain Warehouse surprisingly had 50% off.

Having had one in Oxford for about a year now I have come to the conclusion that Mountain Warehouse is the DFS of outdoor shops, as they appear to have a permanent sale on. Not that I'm complaining, mind you - I'm very happy to have a source of cheap outdoor gear locally!

It got to +1 degree C on Thursday and one of his mates caved (or was forcibly put in a coat by his mother) so now coat-wearing is acceptable. The rate he is growing, I'm quite pleased I didn't buy one in September really.

Actually managed to avoid using a shop at all today (huzzah) largely because we were in Brum and in a concert!

I actually didn't buy anything at all, mostly because I had a lunchtime meeting and was therefore unable to go out and buy chocolate.

Friday is our usual day for errands. Grocery shopping, the library and the pet store for kitty food, so that's what we did. Just the usual.

I wasn't able to put any credit on my 'leccy key last night, so after 'phoning and grumbling at the 'leccy company and getting a new magic code number, I had to go and collect a new key (my 2nd one this year! =:o\ ) from the designated supplier this morning, buy £20 quid of credit, then trudge the 0.8 miles back home to stick it in the meter. (Technically I *could* have left it all 'til tomorrow, but what if I'd forgotten...? =:o\ )

Tomorrow morning I'll go and see what the battlefield looks like in the aftermath of Black Friday, and help with the mopping up.

It was more like "BF2: This Time It's Personal!" than the expected "mopping up", actually. =:o\ And yet, not a *stressful* day as such: Just constantly, steadily busy. Our queue management worked, though, and we just got on with it. Non stop. All day.

And breathe... [SLUMPS, SNORES]

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here but in recent years Black Friday has become a bit of a thing, especially this year. Ads galore, and some better than usual specials. I've bought some things on sale that I've needed but have been waiting for a good sale to buy. Only stuff I fully intended to buy well before; nothing on impulse or just because it's cheap though, if that makes sense?

I was going to make an inessential purchase (a couple of pints of ice cream, ginger and I hadn't decided) but when I got there this evening the shop had a sign that they had run out of ice cream and are therefore closed for the season, see you in February or March. (The website had said this store would be open until the 25th; it's a tiny branch of a larger store out in the suburbs.) Ah, well, I do have some chocolate fudge brownie ice cream.

(Bananas and chicken broth and milk are basic supplies; ice cream when I already have some feels less so.)

Black Friday isn't really a thing here, but a lot of places do have a sale on the same day because 5 weeks from Xmas is a good time to drum up some business.

Was in Seattle for the annual bridesmaids' reunion. ^_^

Went to Uwajimaya (a Japanese shop) to try on and buy a new winter-weight yukata.

Once. Once I have shopped on black Friday. It's still a relatively new phenomenon in this country and it was even newer a handful of years ago, when we decided that I could conveniently do the Christmas shopping on my way home from work so we could get it sent to the UK in a timely manner. (Especially because it also involves a birthday present) We just hadn't thought that it was black friday... Luckily I new precisely which shops to visit and what to buy there so I could be in and out relatively quickly, but it was still SOOOO peopley! By the time I'd struggled through the shopping street and to the train station, I was fit to cry. Then I remembered that one thing I wanted to go and look at, probably to see if I should put it on my own wish list and immediately decided it wasn't important.

Never. Again.

I bought wine and pizza because it was Friday, but other than that I didn't buy anything. And I definitely didn't buy anything marketed as being on sale because of Black Friday.

It's a great tradition! Especially because it is glass of wine in the bath, then more wine with pizza. I cherish Friday Night Bath Night.

I was going to buy Amazon's ridiculously discounted Instantpot, because it was 53% off, but our Thanksgiving dinner (arranged for Friday because of work week) ran late and even though it said I still had nine minutes left to order, it wouldn't let me.

And, I mean, we had a great Thanksgiving and I'd rather have spent lots of time with friends than bought the Instantpot, but I am still mildly sad...

I supported a really interesting author's funding campaign on Unbound, so I did spend money, but I didn't shop, per se.

"Essential Supplies" included dining out with a friend, the day after the holiday when I was a hermit (though I did meet up with a bunch of online folks without family they wanted to or were able to be with).

Groceries for the Saturday holiday dinner. Also some storage things for New Housemate. The timing was mostly because it was a day off which wasn't otherwise occupied.

Ikea was a nightmare, but the grocery shopping was fine. No special deals.

I signed up for a membership at the swimming pool and was surprised to find they had a deal on - I was going to do it anyway, but it did help, taking it from an enormous indulgence to... a slightly less enormous indulgence. I tried to use a code to buy some ModiBodi pants - which I was also going to do anyway - but I couldn't get it to work so I gave up.

It's mainly for me! But he didn't mind it last week, so hopefully it can become a regular thing for both of us.
