Having to choose between Io and Europa is not fair. But Europa is the obvious choice because of water and everything so I had to be different. And then I thought maybe I should choose Callisto or Ganymede just because they should have some love too. As a kid I also loved the name Callisto so much I wished it was my name.

"My name is Callisto, my garden's overgrown..."

No, hang on, that was "Calypso" wasn't it? Still, it has filkish potential. [MAKES A NOTE OF THAT] =:o}

I would have picked all the moons! Can't wait to learn more about them! :)

It's difficult to choose, actually. If you hadn't had radio buttons, I'd have ticked all of them.

OK, thanks to this poll, I have a new filkish song-cycle to write. Probably to be called "Five Galilean Moons". (The fifth one is called "Simon". =:o} )

Two tales.

[1] My first nano involved setting up for a one-way trip to Europa, featuring a craft capable of melting into the ice to get out of the radiation once it arrived.

[2] Years ago there was an invited talk at the AAS about Io. The speaker started by saying he'd worried for years whether to pronounce it "EYE-oh" or "EEE-oh", and then heard a radio spot about the moon, introduced as "Jupiter's moon TEN." Yeah, after that, anything will do.

[1] Yes, well, as I said, it's the first novel I ever wrote. I happened to thumb through it last night... It has some moments, to be sure, but it needs a serious rewrite. It also featured some less-than-realistic ecclesiastical politics.

Meanwhile, please stand by for the launch of novel the... uh... 5th? Depending on how you count. First one I hope to get into wid[er] circulation. Much lighter on the sci-fi (but it's still there) and heavier on the social side of things.
